What is functional medicine?

Functional Medicine is the evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses healthcare issues for the 21st century. Functional Medicine Practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and evaluate the interactions of genetics, environmental and lifestyle influences, which can cause consequences on long-term health and chronic disease.

Having a detailed in-depth discussion with patients regarding their health history, current symptoms and health goals allows functional medicine providers to use this information along with laboratory testing to design a patient specific health plan, tailored for the individual. Rather than only managing disease, functional medicine seeks to address the root causes of poor health. Its goal centers on restoring the human body to optimum functioning.

Our Integrative Functional Medicine Clinic takes the best of conventional medicine in terms of diagnostics and uses them to identify the root cause of your health issues. It also takes the best of the Holistic world to give you a natural approach to healing the body at the root of the issue, instead of simply relying on harmful or unnecessary drugs that merely mask symptoms. This becomes the most effective style of healing in healthcare.

Functional Medicine FAQs

How does functional medicine differ from conventional medicine?

Conventional medicine is great for emergencies, acute, and specific issues. However, for chronic Issues, such as, autoimmunity, gut issues, fatigue, weight gain etc. traditional surgeries and medications can not only be ineffective, but they can exacerbate issues and even harm your body’s ability to fight problems on its own. This can make healing extremely difficult and chronic conditions worse. Functional Medicine focuses on improving your diet, your gut, and any deficiencies your body may have. As Functional Medicine doctors, we focus on finding the root cause of health issues and healing early, before catastrophic events.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance, but offer a superbill for your services that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. The superbill itemizes the services rendered and provides the insurance company with the information they need to process your claim. We do not take any part in submitting claims or calling insurance companies and we cannot guarantee reimbursement.

What about Lab Tests?

Some testing can be done through conventional laboratories, and others are only available through specialty laboratories. During your medical consultation, Dr. Sidhu will determine which tests are needed and will review testing recommendations, instructions (for instance, fasting or non-fasting, etc.) and costs. Testing is frequently done to assess nutritional status, including amino acids, fatty acids, oxidative stress, vitamin levels, mitochondrial function, food sensitivities, and heavy metals. Many other tests are available including genetic testing for a variety of conditions, hormone evaluations, bone health, gastrointestinal health, adrenal function and many others. Some testing can be performed at home with test kits to collect urine, saliva or stool. Others may require a blood draw. In all cases, we will assist you in coordinating initial and follow-up testing.

Do you sell nutritional supplements?

Yes, we often recommend nutritional supplements to patients in conjunction with lifestyle and dietary modification. In some cases, nutritional supplements can be used in place of prescription medications. We have researched high-quality nutritional products and carry only those products that undergo rigorous quality testing by nutritional research laboratories. These products are often of higher quality than those sold over the counter and are free of fillers, allergens and additives.

Does your office accept patients that live in other states?
